Fr. Renato L. Puentevella, SJ (1924-2021)

May 24, 2021

This is to inform you that FR. RENATO L. PUENTEVELLA, S. J. died about 10:30 this morning in the Jesuit Health and Wellness Center, on the campus of Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City. Fr. Ning, 96, suffered a hip fracture from a fall last month and later developed pneumonia.  He entered the Society in 1946 and was ordained to the presbyterate in 1959.

Given continued virus restraints, Fr. Ning’s remains will be cremated and the ashes brought to Loyola House of Studies for in-house memorial Masses there and in other communities on campus.  They will then be kept in the JHWC until a suitable funeral Mass and inurnment in the Province cemetery at Sacred Heart Novitiate can be scheduled. REQUIESCANT IN PACE.

Dearest Fr. NING, I remember you as a very caring mentor and friend during my freshman year at Ateneo de Davao University (AY1973-74). You will surely be missed but I am certain that you will always remain in the hearts of your students. You have been one great BLESSING and GIFT from the Lord. Heartfelt appreciation that in that journey through my College years, our paths crossed. With my Section IM classmates and friends, I learned a lot academically from your English classes. But, beyond that were more meaningful perspectives about our young lives then and our future as adult individuals FOR OTHERS, in society and the world…
Thank you for everything po.
PRAYERS for you, your Jesuit family, relatives, and friends.
REST IN ETERNAL PEACE Dear Fr….. AS YOU HAVE FINALLY GONE HOME to OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN.

Dear Sirs,
I have read Father Ning Puentevella’s passing three days ago. My two friends and I, who were Fr. Ning’s former students at Ateneo De Davao University, would like to know if we can post a tribute to Fr. Ning on Philippine Jesuits’ webpage.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Divina Blanco-Nidhiprabha
