Fr. Alfredo J. Balinong, SJ (1933-2021)

June 20, 2021

This is to inform you that FR. ALFREDO J. BALINONG, S.J., died today, 20 June, at 4:30pm in The Medical City, Pasig. Fr. Freddie, 87, had been admitted to the hospital for a number of procedures to address his heart ailments when he developed pneumonia and experienced multiple organ failure. He entered the Society in 1950 and was ordained to the presbyterate in 1964.

In view of pandemic considerations, Fr. Freddie’s remains will be cremated and the ashes brought to the Jesuit Health and Wellness Center (JHWC) for in-house memorial Masses there and in other communities on campus. They will then be kept in the JHWC until a suitable funeral Mass and interment in the Province cemetery at Sacred Heart Novitiate can be scheduled.

Requiescat in pace.

It is with deep sadness to know the demise of another Jesuit Priest during this pandemic. Just like other Jesuit Community patrons, I mourn too. May the Jesuits esp. the Ateneo priests continue to remain and strong; that life in
Manila will soon be back to normal as long g as tthe vaccines continue. And as your patrons, our faith is in tact because of your daily masses evangelizations and other programs aired on FB.
Thanks so much po. God bless you much.
And may the soul of Fr. Alfredo rest in peace

Fr. Freddie, Your love of the dance was something very special that we shared, as well as many dinners discussing art and philosophy. You were there for the entire New York City Ballet company when we needed you, in tragedy , and each week at The Church of The Blessed Sacrament in NYC. You had a fan club of dancers who came to you for strength and guidance which you so willingly shared.
You also married not only me, but also my parents! What a special thing. You once said that you would not be brave enough to enter into a marriage ,which always made me smile.
What I remember most is your infectious laugh. I thank you for everything Freddie. Rest now in God’s peace.
