Day 8: Jesuit General bids the Philippines adieu

December 15, 2018

On the morning of the last day of his visit, Fr. General Arturo Sosa granted Jesuit Communications-Philippines a half-hour interview at the newly minted office of the Philippine Jesuit Aid Association located in Loyola House of Studies.  Hosting the interview was Ria Limjap, the Communications Officer of the Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific. Fr. General fielded questions, like what lessons he has learned about Asia from his visits to Vietnam and the Philippines, how Jesuit formation should adapt to changing times, and what critical challenges do the Church and the Society of Jesus face today.

After the interview, the General met with the Provincial Superior of the Philippine Province, Fr. Primitivo Viray, and the members of the Province Consult.  In this brief meeting, the General shared his observations regarding his visit and gave last-minute instructions. Fr. Jose Quilongquilong, SJ, Province point person for the General’s visit and also a Province Consultor, said that the General was “very happy with and very grateful for the visit.”

Finally, after a quick lunch, as the General waited for his ride to the airport, the Jesuit scholastics of Loyola House of Studies, together with their Rector, Fr. Silvino Borres, surprised him by serenading him with Filipino Christmas carols. The General thanked them for the send-off and bid them goodbye.
