For some, it was their first experience of a Lenten activity of such kind: the Ateneo-wide Stations of the Cross around the campus on Friday afternoon, 07 March 2014. Organized by the Ateneo Grade School, it was participated in by the various units of the university, including Arrupe International Residence. What was “special” in this year’s activity was the presence of the (replica of the) statue of the famous Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila. The “Senior Jesus Nazareno” was carried in a sort of synchronized movement by about 15 people of those various units mentioned from one station to another, while the rest of the faithful were following in procession. For each station representatives of the assigned unit read the Gospel passage, prayer, and reflection in Tagalog (!) All the while, a looming rain was threatening but, luckily (?) only a few drops managed to fall. The united strengths of San Jose seminarians, LHS scholastics, and AIR scholastics carried the Black Nazarene from the 5th to the 6th station. The whole affair lasted until about 7:00 pm, after which a Holy Eucharist followed. The whole lenten activity was very solemn and relatively well-attended.
