Jane Hellings from the British Province of the Society of Jesus was a resource speaker during the conference.

The conference fosters cooperation, sharing of ideas and best practices among countries under its umbrella which  is necessary for the Society of Jesus to realize its apostolic mission. This is important in an area with at least one third of the world’s population and a large proportion of  indigenous peoples. Christianity is a tiny minority in Asia Pacific which is home to several major religions and to ancient, deep spiritual and cultural traditions. For example,  in our Jesuit Conference is the most populous Islamic nation –  Indonesia.  Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand adhere to Theravada Buddhism, and all other countries of Confucian culture.

Although only the Philippines and Timor-Leste are predominantly Catholic Christian, the area is a fast-growing part of the Society of Jesus, along with other parts of Asia and Africa. The approximately 1,600 Jesuits in the JCAP account for about 10 percent of the total  number of Jesuits in the world.  To know more about JCAP, go to: http://sjapc.net/home.
