The Donor Bill of Rights

PhJesuits.org subscribes to “The Donor Bill of Rights” created by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and the Giving Institute: Leading Consultants to Non-Profits. We reprint it here with permission from AFP:

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To ensure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the non-profit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:

  1. To be informed of the organization’s mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
  2. To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization’s governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
  3. To have access to the organization’s most recent financial statements.
  4. To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
  5. To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.
  6. To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
  7. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
  8. To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.
  9. To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that an organization may intend to share.
  10. To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.

Donation Process

If you are a donor from the UNITED STATES, you should be making a donation to the Philippine Jesuit Foundation (PJF). PJF is a charitable organization under section 501(c)3 of the US Internal Revenue Code. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. PJF will receive your donation in US Dollars (USD).

If you are a donor from the Philippines or from other countries aside from the United States, you should be making a donation to the Philippine Jesuit Aid Association, Inc. (PJAA). PJAA will receive your donation in Philippine Pesos (PHP). If you are using a credit card with a different currency, you can check the exchange rate of your currency on www.xe.com and enter the equivalent amount of your intended donation in Philippine Pesos.

Complete your personal information and specify the amount that you would like to donate. You can choose to donate to a specific beneficiary (e.g., the formation of Jesuit scholastics and seminarians, the care of the elderly and infirm Jesuits, the apostolic works of the Philippine Jesuits).

Submit your information. Once you confirm you are making a donation, you will be directed to the secure pages of our credit card service provider for processing. You will receive an e-mail notification confirming that your donation has been processed.

Refund Policy

If you believe that an error has been made in connection with your online donation, contact us. We will respond within two business days and endeavour to work with you to correct any such error and, if necessary, make any refund or correction that is appropriate.

If you change your mind about donating online through PhJesuits.org for any reason, we will honor your decision as long as you request a refund (return of donation) within 14 calendar days of the date on which you made the contribution. Refunds will be issued as a credit to the credit card used for the original donation. Charges arising from the refund will be charged to you.
